Egypt has announced plans to present a comprehensive vision for rebuilding Gaza while ensuring Palestinians remain on their land. This contrasts with former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal, which suggested relocating Gaza’s population to Jordan, Egypt, and other countries.
Following Trump’s meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah, where he reiterated his plan for U.S. control over Gaza, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to a just resolution of the Palestinian issue. King Abdullah and other Arab leaders have firmly rejected any forced displacement, with the UN warning that such actions would violate international law.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi emphasized in talks with Denmark’s prime minister that reconstruction efforts must not lead to Palestinian displacement. While Egypt has not yet detailed its plan, it is expected to discuss the proposal at an emergency Arab summit on February 27.
Trump had previously suggested halting aid to Egypt and Jordan if they refused to accept displaced Palestinians. However, Egyptian sources indicate Sisi will not visit Washington if Trump’s plan is on the agenda. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has invited Arab leaders to Riyadh for further discussions on the issue.
