Cairo’s Health Vision: Localizing MedTech for Africa’s Future

As African nations seek self-sufficiency in healthcare, Egypt and the UAE are charting a bold new course—one where medical technology is made in Africa, for Africa.
At the 2025 Africa Health ExCon in Cairo, a strategic partnership was launched with the goal of producing and adapting medical technologies for local and continental needs.

Unveiled at Africa Health ExCon 2025, the memorandum of understanding between Egypt’s Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) and UAE-based INDEX Holding centers on localizing medical technology production. Egypt’s regional leadership in healthcare and the UAE’s expertise in medical exhibitions combine to strengthen Africa’s medtech ecosystem through local manufacturing, training, and events.

Dr. Hisham Siteit, Chairman of UPA, underscored the partnership’s impact, stating:

“We believe in the importance of regional and international cooperation in developing the healthcare sector, particularly in medical technologies, continuing education, and knowledge exchange. This partnership will enable us to adopt global best practices in organising medical and scientific conferences.”

Through joint exhibitions and workshops, the initiative highlights adaptable innovations—like AI-enhanced hospital tools and affordable diagnostics—tailored for African healthcare systems. It connects startups, public agencies, and manufacturers to co-create solutions that reflect the continent’s realities. With Africa’s medtech market expected to surpass $11 billion by 2030, Cairo’s localization strategy is both visionary and actionable.

Africa’s medtech future is no longer a distant goal—it is being developed, manufactured, and tested right now in Cairo.
Keep your eyes on local solutions with global impact.
