Construction of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile river, which costs about $4.6 billion, which is more than 70 per cent completed and the motive is to provide much-needed electricity to Ethiopia’s 100 million people, has been a controversial point among the three main Nile Basin countries.

Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on Sunday discussed their problems and decided that they would continue later this week to resolve their dispute over the dam. Ethiopia has decided to begin filling of the dam’s reservoir in the coming two weeks, but Egypt has their own concerns that filling the reservoir rapidly could reduce the amount of water in the river available to Egypt people. The countries will resume the discussion today as decided over a video conference on Sunday.
