Andrew Mlangeni, South African anti-apartheid figure has died on Wednesday as announced by the presidency. He was 95 years old. He stood in the trial by the side of Nelson Mandela in the 1963-64 Rivonia Trial. Authorities said he was admitted to a military hospital in the capital Pretoria on Tuesday with an abdominal complaint.
President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his grief on Twitter, he has learnt with deep sadness of the passing away overnight of the last remaining Rivonia Trialist. Mlangeni was the last survivor of Rivonia trialist and had almost spent 25 years in jail on Cape Town’s notorious Robben Island before his release in 1989.
