Democratic Republic of Congo’s city is the second-largest Minich rich city where mining companies such as Ivanhoe and MMG Ltd have concessions. Pro-independence rebels thwarted an attempt to seize the building overnight in the Congolese mining hub of Lubumbashi as claimed by the regional authorities on Saturday. The rebels beheaded two policemen and killed a soldier before security forces repelled the attack.
What happened was, around 200 Mai-Mai militia, armed with guns and machetes, had moved into the city of around 2 million people with the aim to occupy official buildings and the local television station, late Friday. This detail was given by provincial interior minister Fulbert Kunda. Now the situation has been taken care of and the city is now calm.
