Dr John Pimbe Magufuli, Tanzania’s President has died at the age of 62 as confirmed by the Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan. 

The Vice President announced that the President died of a heart condition on March 17, 2021, at about 6 p.m. at Mzena Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where he had been admitted on March 14, in a televised speech on TBC.

Magufuli was initially admitted to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute on March 6, but was later discharged, according to the Vice President.

Magufuli was born in Chato, Geita Tanzania, in 1959. He Studied chemistry and maths at the University of Dar es Salaam and also worked as a chemistry and maths teacher. He was first elected as an MP in 1995 and then became a cabinet minister in 2000. He was first elected president in 2015.

The Vice President said that Magufuli was first admitted in the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute on March 6, but then he got discharged from there.Thereafter, he was rushed to Mzena hospital again on March 14 after feeling unwell. She announced that the nation will be in  a 14-day  period of mourning.

Now, according to the Constitution the Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan is now the acting president of Tanzania. Now a date will be finalised for her swearing in and she will be Tanzania’s first female president.
