Antony Blinken, United States Secretary of State is all set to make his first visit to Africa today, virtually though. He will meet with the presidents of Kenya and Nigeria and a meeting with African youth from across the continent.

According to sources, Blinken will be meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerian President and Geoffrey Onyeama, Foreign Minister “to reiterate the value of our bilateral relationship and discuss issues of shared importance.”

The visit falls under the security situation in the country. Matters like, a key oil exporter, continues to spiral in the middle of attacks by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the north, widespread displacement and increases in kidnappings for ransom. Then after Nigeria, Blinken’s will make a virtual trip to Kenya, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo will celebrate the “57-year bilateral relationship” and will also “discuss future cooperation to promote democracy and expand trade, and explore avenues to address global challenges, including climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic”, as the state department said.
