Looted Benin Bronzes will be returned to Nigeria in 2022 by Germany!

Germany is planning to return ancient, pillaged artefacts to Nigeria next year, which were looted. They are known as the Benin Bronzes. On Thursday, the museum experts and political leaders struck an agreement. These were looted in the 19th century and since then they are displayed in German museums. For inventorying all the items, they have time till June 15, followed by a meeting on June 29 to consider the best approach.

The british forces looted the many artefacts during a military expedition to the kingdom from Nigeria in 1897.

The 16th-18th century metal plaques and sculptures that make the beauty of the royal palace of the Kingdom of Benin are among the most highly rated and recognised works of African art. They are now scattered around European museums.

Now the most important step is to figure out the road map for the return of the artifacts, which should be completed in the next few months.
