The Olympic games list is constantly growing in Burundi. Especially, badminton is making its own ground despite being a new game in the East African country. Trainees, tutors and sports teachers have just completed their training by the country’s badminton federation. This is the time when this sport will be introduced in schools also.
The regional manager for the African Badminton Federation, Borpe Bernadin aimed to conduct training, so he introduced this sport to his trainees by saying “To play, you need a racket with a string, and a ball; the shuttlecock”. Badminton has been in Burundi for a while but is still recognised by few, so they thought of proposing a national league to grow the interest of people.
Francois Ndondo, the Burundi Badminton Federation president said that “We have aimed for at least 100 physical education teachers to be trained from 100 selected schools on the national territory by 2024. We will design at least 200 fields in all these schools and hoping that within 4 years at least ten thousand players will be trained in badminton”.
