Ethiopia aims to plant 20 billion trees by 2022

Ethiopian President, Abiy Ahmed has been leading a project ‘Green Legacy’ and as a part of it, he has planned to pursue a campaign to plant 6 billion trees across the country this year. The project is to promote eco-tourism and combat the effects of climate change. His focus is to promote the environment this election. 

The hall where the meeting was held on Tuesday was filled with freshly watered seedlings and encouraged Ethiopians to plant trees. President Abiy Ahmed posted on Twitter that “As Ethiopians, our lives are strongly intertwined with trees and forests. Today as we launch the 2021 edition of #GreenLegacy initiative, we refer to the four year challenge we set in 2019, aimed at addressing the consequences of environmental degradation and climate change. 1/3″. “Preventing flooding, food insecurity, environment related conflicts and other adverse effects is in our hands. When I call upon all Ethiopians to “Adorn Ethiopia” the call is to cover our nation Green; to see beyond lines of division – regional, ethnic, religious, sex and; 2/3″.
