Amidst rising tension in Burkina Faso, a team called Ecowas from the West African regional block will visit the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou on Monday. The purpose of the visit would be to assess the current situation in the country.

This announcement came a week after the government of Burkina Faso, with elected President Roch Kaboré was overturned by the military officers. Ecowas, a ministerial-level mission would get together with the Un delegation. The UN delegation will be led by the head of the UN Office for West Africa and Sahel.

This joint team of Ecowas and the UN delegation will hold talks with the military leaders in the country and other Burkinabè actors. To further deliberate the actions, there will be an in-person Ecowas summit organized in Ghana on Thursday.

There has been a surge in political instability with a troubling rise in the number of coups performed in West Africa. Burkina Faso is the third in line in the region after Guinea and Mali in the last year.

Moreover, Ecowas has condemned such actions and aims to significantly reduce terror influence in the regions in and around Burkina Faso. The UN delegation stands against the constant instability gripping Burkina Faso and neighbouring areas that have displaced millions of people, killed thousands, brought conflict, poverty, and hunger to the regions.
