Agriculture ministry of Namibia has banned trading and movement of live birds in the country. The contagious bird disease, New castle, has been proliferating in Oshana, Ohangwena and Oshikoto, in the north of the country, ever since its outbreak in July this year.
People of Namibia have had their encounter with New castle disease in past but current magnitude approaches a dangerous outbreak.
“In light of this, movement and trading of live birds, chickens, ducks, ostriches, guinea fowls, caged birds, pigeons and doves has been banned with immediate effect,” the ministry stated.
Commercial poultry farmers are asked to visit the nearest veterinary centre for vaccination programmes.
