Botswana Shuts Schools Temporarily as Heavy Rains Disrupt Transport

Botswana’s government has temporarily closed schools due to heavy rainfall that has flooded roads and made student transportation difficult.

According to Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Nono Kgafela Mokoka, schools will remain closed from February 20 to February 24, with authorities closely monitoring the situation. Further updates will be provided based on weather conditions.

The country has been experiencing continuous heavy rains, leading to flash floods across many regions. Weather forecasts indicate that the rainfall, expected to exceed 50mm in the next 24 hours, could continue until the end of February.

Authorities are urging residents to stay cautious, especially in flood-prone areas, as efforts are underway to assess the impact and provide necessary assistance.
