On Thursday, President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique inaugurated a significant initiative aimed at establishing a “National Petrochemical City” in the village of Mavanza, located within the Vilankulo district of the Inhambane province in southern Mozambique.
The undertaking, which has a financial allocation of two billion US dollars, is set to be executed by the Phoenix International Group, headquartered in Hong Kong, with an anticipated completion date of 2028. Once operational, this facility is projected to generate over one million tonnes of petrochemical products annually. This initiative aims not only to stimulate job creation but also to foster industrial growth and development.
The industrial infrastructure encompasses thermal power plants, maritime terminals, wastewater treatment facilities, and production units for a wide range of polymers. Additionally, the initiative features a residential community that includes educational institutions for the children of employees, hospitals equipped with advanced medical technology, and retail centers.
