The World Bank Group has allotted funding of $200 million from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Guinea Water and Sanitation Project (PEAG) in order to improve access to water and sanitation services in Guinea.
Total Funding and Overview
A significant amount of funding will be provided for the Guinea Water and Sanitation Project (PEAG):
- $200 million – IDA credit from IDA
- $15 million – from the Guinean government
- 245 million – European Investment Bank loan
- $29 million – Grant from the European Union
- $10.092 million – Global Environment Facility
Total funding of: $499.092 million
This project will mobilize funding from many partners to improve water and sanitation services around Guinea.
Project Objectives
The Guinea Water and Sanitation Project (PEAG) is a project aimed to run from 2025 to 2031 and has the following objectives:
- Improve access to water: More drinking water services in Conakry
- Strengthen institutional capacity: Improve operational capacity of water and sanitation agencies
- Construct production and distribution: Water production and distribution systems.
- Recovering plan: Follow a recovery plan with Guinea Water Company (SEG)
- WASH upgrade: Water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in schools and sanitation governance systems to strengthen.
The aim for the project is to improve access to clean water and sanitation services for citizens in the country while building institutional capacity and infrastructure.
