Africa Day 2021 comes amid new challenges on the continent

African government celebrates 25 may which is today, known as Africa Day. Formerly, Africa Day is known as the African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day. It is the annual celebration of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on 5 May 1963. Then the organisation turned into  African Union on 9 July 2002 in Durban, South Africa and Africa Day continued to be celebrated on 25 May.

It is celebrated all over Africa and even in other parts of the world. This year the theme is “Arts, Culture And Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa We Want”. Africa Union posted on twitter that “#Africa_Day is observed annually on 25 May, to commemorate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), precursor of the African Union. The day provides an opportunity to recite the political & socio-economic achievements of African governments and African citizens”.
