Oil companies are racing to make more plastic. But they all are facing the same problems- one is many markets are already awash with plastic, and second is few countries are willing to be dumping grounds for the world’s plastic waste. But they all have a common solution and that is Africa! According to an industry group representing the world’s largest chemical-makers and fossil fuel companies is lobbying to influence U.S. trade negotiations with Kenya, which is one of Africa’s biggest economies. They are about to reverse its strict limits on plastics — including a tough plastic-bag ban. It is also forcing Kenya to continue importing foreign plastic garbage.

Plastic makers are hoping that in future may be Kenya could serve as a hub for supplying U.S.-made chemicals and plastics to other markets in Africa through this trade agreement. Director of international trade for the American Chemistry Council,  Ed Brzytwa, wrote in an April 28 letter to the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
