President FILIPE NYUSI of MOZAMBIQUE has inaugurated a new operating theatre at MANDIMBA Rural Hospital in the northern province of NIASSA.
RADIO MOZAMBIQUE says the facility, built at a cost of around 208-THOUSAND US dollars, will handle common types of surgery, including caesarean births.
It quotes President NYUSI as saying MANDIMBA residents who required surgery in the past had to travel to the provincial capital, LICHINGA, or cross the border into MALAWI.
Meanwhile, a Surgical Technician, ABRANTES FERREIRA, has told reporters the operating theatre will benefit not only for patients, but also the budget of the hospital.
He says the theatre will enable the medical institute save money and reduce the use of ambulances to ferry patients in need of surgery to LICHINGA.
However, MANDIMBA Hospital Administrator NURO ISMAEL says the great challenge posed with the opening of the new operating theatre is to ensure there are enough blood.
The MOZAMBICAN medical official says without blood, it will be impossible to undertake any major surgery at the new facility at MANDIMBA./Sabanews/cam
