After they were convened by the National Peace Council, the Presidential candidates in Ghana have committed themselves to a peaceful election in a peace deal signed in Accra. In the peace pact, the seven contenders  made a promise to follow electoral rules and ensure that Ghana stays peaceful after the election.  John Mahama said the pact says that Ghana will continue in peace and stability. He also said that Ghana’s democracy is too precious to be “gambled away on the altar of an unbridled quest to hold unto power.” Nana Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party said that he wished to that Ghana will maintain its position as a glowing example of democracy in Africa.
