The head of United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) David Shearer met with President Salwa Kiir, in the capital city of Juba, where he reaffirmed his support for peace efforts.

In a meeting held recently, Shearer said that the United Nations and the UNMISS are there to support South Sudan and asserted that his job will be done when conditions in the youngest country of the world permit him to leave as he had come with an open mind.

The UNMISS was deployed in July 2011 when South Sudan gained independence from Sudan. The former has been facing challenges since December 2013, when a political instability morphed into a nationwide conflict, causing one of the worst displacement situations for civilians.
