Nearly 45 million people face food crisis in S. Africa

Nearly 40 million people are facing a food crisis in southern Africa. Natural calamities like drought, floods and the global pandemic Covid19 have made a very bad impact on food. The tally has increased from last year by 10 per cent as reported by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) on Tuesday. Also, this pandemic has devastated the economy, business activity, jobs and remittances and increased poverty.

The authorities estimated that the food scarcity will rise further and 8.4 million children are likely to suffer from acute malnutrition across the region, of whom 2.3 million will require life-saving treatment. South Africa is the worst virus hit country with 450,000 infections and more than 7,000 deaths.
