All non-recyclable plastic waste is going to be stopped from being shipped to developing countries as of January 1, 2021, as decided. Under new rules acknowledged by the ECU Union only ‘clean plastic waste’ – things which can be recycled – are often exported to non-OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries.
Virginijus Sinkevičius is the Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries. He said that the EU, we are taking responsibility for the waste we generate and this has sent a crystal clear message. This is often an essential achievement in preventing plastic pollution. The transitioning, shifting to a circular economy and achieving the aims of the ECU Green Deal. Europeans generate 25 million tonnes of plastic waste annually. But a 3rd of that gets recycled.
