During this coronavirus pandemic, The International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC) has introduced a coordinated action to support livelihoods. A warning has been given; failure may encourage a thunder in aid-dependency in countries at conflict.

Recognising  new survey data from different countries like Nigeria, Libya, Iraq and Ukraine, the Red Cross said today that the impact of Covid-19 on  economic and food security was massive and appeared likely to worsen over time.

Volunteers distribute food parcels during a lockdown to slow the spread of the coronavirus disease in Lagos, Nigeria.

ICRC said in their statement that,”In countries which are in conflict, thousands already live with little or no healthcare, food, water and electricity, as well as fraught prices and destroyed infrastructure. COVID-19’s impact could set in motion a brutal cycle of lost income, worsening poverty and hunger.” They also added, “In the Philippines, movement restrictions targeted at holding back the spread of COVID-19 more particularly farmers’ access to farms in conflicted areas such as Mindanao.
