The new rail corridor will run through three states: Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina and through to Niger’s Maradi. Other cities which will be connected with the line in Nigeria are Danbatta, Kazaure, Daura, Mashi, Katsina, and Jibiya.

The project is guided  by a Portuguese multinational engineering, and construction company Mota-Engil Group. Portuguese construction firm Mota-Engil signed an almost U.S.$2 billion contract with Nigeria’s Ministry of Transport for its construction. The railway line is about to reinforce import and export trade between Nigeria, Niger Republic, and neighboring countries when completed in 2023.

The project is a component of the Nigerian government’s decision to build rail networks to deal with the poor transport infrastructure that has bogged down the economic process for many years . During construction, quite one thousand direct jobs are going to be created.
