Mahendra Singh Dhoni revealed that he would be retiring internationally from cricket to make his career the only skipper to have won all the three major International Cricket Council (ICC) awards — the World Cup, the Twenty20 World Cup and the Champions trophy.
In a post on Instagram on Saturday, Dhoni wrote: “Thanks. Thanks for ur love and support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired”
However, in the 13th IPL edition, Dhoni is going to play with the Chennai Super Kings. Kasi Viswanath ‘s team CEO recently said he’d continue to play until 2022.
The career of Dhoni has been multi-point but the highlight came in 2011 when it struck a 6-pack long ball, full length, from Nuwan Kulasekara to end India’s 28-year long wait for a second ODI World Cup. The 39-year-old scored 10,773 one-day international (ODI) runs in 350 games – the 11th highest total in history.
He has played 90 Tests with 4,876 runs and led India to the leading ranks on the world stage before he retired from crickets in 2014. He was also playing 98 T20s. For a historic 322 international matches, he captained India and his 110 ODI wins are only second over 165 by Australian Ricky Ponting.
