Major protests broke out in DR Congo on Thursday due to the fact that the Interior Minister Gilbert Kankonde banned all rallies across the nation keeping the risk of coronavirus in mind. Police of DR Congo had fired tear gas to break up the protests as the political tensions rose up. In the capital Kinshasa, members of the presidential union for democracy and progress (UDPS) were dispersed after a 2-mile march around the seats of democracy.
The demonstrations were affected by a decision imposed by the National Assembly, which is controlled by supporters of former President Joseph Kabila, to appoint Ronsard Malonda as the chairman of the independent national electoral commission, CENI.
