The Ministry of Youth and Sports held a meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to discuss joint cooperation frameworks regarding the establishment of the program of the Nasser Fellowship for African Leadership-2nd Cohort, scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.

The meeting reviewed highlights regarding the joint cooperation between the African Youth Bureau within the Ministry of Youth and sports -concerned with the establishment of the Fellowship program- and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, among which choosing the tourist and archaeological sites that will be included in the program of the Fellowship to give the young African participants an opportunity to learn about the tourist and cultural attractions of Egypt. In addition, both sides discussed the contributions of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to the Fellowship through Egyptian national companies, as well as marketing through the Tourism Promotion Authority, which had an active role in the activities of the 1st cohort.

It was further agreed that the documentary films prepared by the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority will be included in the Fellowship program, giving prominence to the Egyptian Museum as it represents a major national project.

The representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities stated that new and inspiring ideas would be studied designed to enhance the role of Egyptian tourism and promote it both internally and externally through the Fellowship recipients from African countries, making them ambassadors to Egypt upon return to their country. The engagement mechanism of the African Tourism Organization in this important event was also studied to provide support to the African Fellowship.

For their part, the African Youth Bureau working group praised the role of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the establishment of the first program of Nasser Fellowship, as well as the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps, and special mention must be made of the seminar delivered by Minister of Antiquities Dr Khaled Al-Anani in the presence of Dr Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Ms Aya Chebbi, African Union Youth Envoy, in December 2019 at the Olympic Center in Maadi.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Youth and Sports established the program of the Nasser Fellowship for African Leadership -1st Cohort in June 2019 under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly, as part of the activities held under the Egyptian Presidency of the African Union 2019, as recommended by President El-Sisi at the World Youth Forum. The Nasser Fellowship is the first African fellowship that managed to transfer Egypt’s development experience to young executive leaders on the continent, as well as being one of the activation mechanisms of the African Youth Charter, Africa’s Agenda 2030 and the inter-south Partnership.
