Minister of Foreign Affairs, Russia, Sergey Lavrov has decided to reopen its embassy in Libya although its head will temporarily be based in neighbouring country Tunisia. On Friday, at the meeting, Lavrov with the speaker of Libya’s pro-Khalifa Haftar eastern Parliament, Aguila Saleh, discussed Russia’s desire for the termination of hostilities in Libya and the beginning of a political dialogue.
He said that the embassy in Libya, at this stage, will be headed by Charge d’Affaires Jamshed Boltaev. It is for now temporarily based in Tunisia, but it emphasises all its functions including representing Russia across all Libya’s territory. Russia vacated its envoy from Libya in October 2013 after an armed force attacked its embassy in Tripoli.
