The young Senegalese Diary Sow, a student in France whose absence created a controversy in her country at the beginning of the year, has returned to Senegal on Friday, reported the local press.
Louis-Le-Grand, a 20-year-old student enrolled in a preparatory class at the prestigious Parisian High School, was declared missing after failing to attend classes on January 4.
On January 7, her disappearance was announced and the Senegalese student union mobilised to find her. According to the Senegalese ambassador to France, Maquette Sèye, President Macky Sall himself ordered a hunt for her.
An inquiry into her disappearance was initially initiated in France, but it later turned out to be a voluntary move. The consulate of Senegal in Paris reported on Monday that she was safe and sound.
She is recognised in her nation for her academic excellence and achievement and was named the best student in Senegal when she won Miss Science in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
She was awarded a scholarship for excellence after graduating from high school in 2019, which allowed her to join the Louis le Grand preparatory class.

French police said they had carried out several searches in the university residence and neighbourhood of the 20-year-old, and also studied her history of internet browsing and her bank accounts.
Sow published her first book, Sous le visage d’un ange, meaning (Under the face of an angel), published by l’Harmattan, early last year. She tells the adventures of a young woman named Allyn in the novel, “whose blind ambition will make her an insatiable” The character disappeared two times in that book. If her imaginary tale has anything to do with her disappearance in real life, it is not obvious.
