Gunmen have killed quite 100 people during a dawn attack within the western Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia, consistent with the country’s human rights commission. The attack occurred on Wednesday. This was within the village of Bekoji in Bulen county within the Metekel zone. there is an area where multiple ethnic groups are living as claimed by the state-run Ethiopian Human Rights Commission.
Africa’s second-most populous nation has been grappling. It is moving with regular outbreaks of deadly violence. It has been done since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was appointed in 2018. It accelerated democratic reforms which loosened the state’s iron grip on regional rivalries. Elections due next year have also bloated simmering tensions over land, power and resources. In a separate part of the country, Ethiopia’s military has been fighting rebels bravely. It is done within the northern Tigray region. It is going for six weeks during a conflict that has displaced close to 950,000 people.
