Hawa Abdi, a doctor and a human rights activist died on Wednesday in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu. She was 73 years old. She saved the lives of tens of thousands of Somalis during hard years of war, famine and displacement. Her death was confirmed by her daughter Dr. Deqo Mohamed without giving any cause of death.

Civil war broke out in Somalia and created havoc in the country and also made a great impact on the economy and infrastructure. She had her own small clinic that she opened on her own land in 1983 and also assisted women with birth and promoted health care for children.
