The Zimbabwe government has decided for schools that it will be illegal to expel pregnant girls. The measures have been concerned with women’s rights campaigners saying that it would be helpful in resolving gender inequality in the classroom and stop many girls from dropping out of school. School authorities said that the parents and even the girls themselves decide not to attend the school because of their pregnancy, and schools also do not encourage them.

Cain Mathema, the education minister in charge of schools said on Monday that he wants every pupil to be assisted by schools as every single child has the right to go to school. Last week a legal amendment was introduced to reinforce  a 1999 guideline due to coronavirus raise fears of a rise in sexual abuse and unwanted pregnancies.
